  • Client: UK national and UK resident
  • Net Worth: Approximately £20M
  • Asset Base: Concentrated equity position, diversified investment portfolio and substantial Bitcoin holding
  • Funding Requirement: Approximately £1.8M for investment in a private start-up
  • Solution: Specialist asset-backed facility incorporating digital and traditional assets

The client was a UK national and UK resident with an estimated net worth of approximately £20M. Their wealth was held across a concentrated equity position, a diversified investment portfolio and a substantial Bitcoin holding.

The client sought to raise approximately £1.8M to invest in a private start-up. Rather than liquidating existing assets, the client wished to explore an asset-backed financing structure that could provide access to capital while preserving exposure to their wider portfolio, including their digital assets.

The client's wealth was spread across concentrated equity and digital assets, which many lenders assess separately or may not accept as collateral. Previous proposals had involved multiple lenders, potentially increasing fees and operational complexity. Appropriate custody arrangements and clear oversight of the underlying assets were also important considerations when structuring the facility.

Enness identified a specialist lender capable of considering multiple asset classes within a single financing structure. The assets were assessed within the lender's required custodial and security framework, allowing the lender to evaluate the overall position while maintaining appropriate controls around the underlying collateral.

Subject to lender approval, asset suitability, prevailing market conditions and the client's circumstances, the proposed structure provided a route to accessing capital through a single facility rather than requiring the client to liquidate assets or arrange multiple separate borrowing facilities. In this case, the solution supported the client's proposed start-up investment while allowing them to maintain exposure to their traditional and digital assets.

This case demonstrates how specialist asset-backed lending can provide alternative liquidity solutions for high-net-worth clients with complex portfolios, particularly where wealth is held across multiple asset classes. Each transaction is assessed individually, with available leverage, structure and terms dependent on lender criteria, the underlying assets and prevailing market conditions.
