Viva Las Vegas

Las Vegas notches up yet more pluses. Its Grand Prix has been and gone. This year, Nevada’s first-ever Super Bowl, LVIII, takes place in the new Allegiant Stadium on 11th February. Stay stylish at Wynn Las Vegas or its Encore sibling, and definitely sashay-supper at Delilah.

Mask It 

Happy holidays may be past, but how about an any-time gift for a gallivanting gal? Nothing beats a pure-silk sleep mask in an elegant pouch. Washable, too. For guys, choose chunky cardies (Begg x Co’s best-sellers include an eight-ply yacht cardigan with a roll collar).

Turkish Delights 

As if any reason is needed to head for the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn, Renzo Piano’s stunning new Istanbul Modern building is an indisputable draw. Don’t miss its fascinating Renzo Piano: Genius Loci exhibit, telling the art gallery’s story and its design. It’s only eight minutes walk, via the Bosphorus’ Galataport Promenade, to The Peninsula Istanbul.

Desert Soak

There are private pools and not-so-private pools. We need a category for villa pools that really are far from prying eyes. In the 12-metre heated pools at Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah Al Wadi, the only voyeurs are gazelle and oryx. If necessary, retreat to your tent, 158sq m, wood floors, temperature controlled. Roll-top tub to soak yet more desert views.

Champagne? On Ice 

St Moritz’s Snow Polo World Cup introduces new attractions every year. On 26-28 January 2024, the 39th edition adds Champagne Perrier-Jouët to the sponsors’ roll. As well as championship matches, there are demonstrations by Uruguayan performance legend David ‘Pelon’ Stirling. Off-ice, head to Badrutt’s Palace Renaissance Bar. Renaissance mixologist Andrea Delvo’s Bellinis use white peaches hotel-bottled last summer.

Art India

BMW is the main sponsor of the India Art Fair 1-4 February, at New Delhi’s NSIC Exhibition Grounds. BMW also supports year-round artists’ avant-garde videos and projects. The Imperial, 20 minutes’ limo away, similarly shows unique art – a retrospective of late 18th-century India-based artists Thomas and William Daniell and more. Add its classic photo art. See Lord and Lady Curzon, plus dozens of minions and diamonds galore, at the 1903 Coronation Durbar.

A Paris Pad

A new cool Paris pad floats above the Chopard store at 1 Place Vendôme. Chanel and Dior are neighbours, as is Ritz Paris. Fifteen bedrooms on six floors sleep above the shop. Pierre-Yves Rochon design. Full food and drink, watched by a Chagall here, a Warhol there (but pay for any jewels that tempt). What a location to start a new year, and wake up looking around at place Vendôme, begun in 1698 to honour the Sun King, Louis XIV.
